Each summer, my department at work (all 150 of us!) spends a day out of the office engaging in team-building activities. Last year, we painted triptychs... or tried to. This year, we headed up to Highbridge Park in Washington Heights for a day of service - weeding, digging up trees, throwing out used needles (yes) and avoiding poison ivy, which was everywhere. It's not for everyone, but I love this kind of thing. Some good old manual labor is satisfying, and the cause is worthwhile. Investments in community and environment are a win, all around.
Afterward, we all met up at Brass Monkey in the Meatpacking District for drinks and appetizers on their gorgeous rooftop. A nice trade-off for time usually spent at a desk, I'd say.
