Ballet.

From Maisie's first attempt at ballet: a few tears, mostly excitement. She brought her beloved Minnie Mouse along, and mastered the toe point. When we left, she said to me, "I was just so proud." Same, Maisie. Same.

Lately.

*a little boy, still enthralled by legos.
*a little girl, still absorbed in books.
*more long days of work for me and Blake - big projects on the horizon.
*several sleepless nights.
*lots of phone calls to the people we miss seeing in person.
*an upcoming move - and the sale of our home! more to come soon.

First lost tooth.

For our Hugo Henry, who was as happy as a clam about it. The tooth fairy went a little overboard for this go around, and yes, we do know that that means we've set a precedent.

From 2020.

january: I was still commuting into NYC every week. we spent a lot of time on the bounce house in our basement, and began furnishing the newly finished space. we had birthday parties and dates and museum visits and church with no masks.
february: we went to a New Haven Symphony Orchestra concert and celebrated Valentine's Day. I did the Run for Refugees in New Haven. I traveled to Denver to visit Rachel and her new baby Ernie, and while I was there, our newest nephew Jack was born. I went to a fun food event in the city. this was also the month that we found out Gus was sick with a pancreatic tumor.
march: we went to a Hands Offering Hope event, then were thrown into quarantine, which we thought would last just a couple of weeks (ha). we made the most of it with walks outside, starting new house projects and attempts at distance learning. I was also promoted to VP this month, and Blake moved into a new office. at the end of the month, we were able to get Gus in for emergency surgery that saved his life.
april: our Maisie turned 2! I started training for a half marathon (that didn't end up happening). we hired a nanny and set up recurring video calls with family and friends. celebrated Easter. missed our people, but continued to make the best of it.
may: our Hugo turned 5! we renovated our deck and got new deck furniture, ate Chinese food on the beach, cleaned out closets, rode bikes, planted a tree, and I launched a big campaign at work. Maisie got impetigo (oof) and we celebrated Memorial Day with family.
june: we got out of the house. took a day trip to Newport, spent a week in Martha's Vineyard, flew down to Miami for a long weekend (just the two of us). I turned 31. Hugo graduated from preschool. we celebrated 10 years of marriage with a date by a lighthouse and Father's Day with a pizza party.
july: we got creative with outings. spent time in the pool and at the beach and outside at our fire pit. celebrated 4th of July at my parents' house, and they uncovered my long lost wedding dress.
august: we made a trip up to Stowe for family and outdoor time. Blake turned 33. we made visits to the playground and spent time with cousins. we said goodbye to friends, deep cleaned, and finished the retaining wall on our garage.
september: both kids started school and I started going back into the city for work on occasion. I spent a long weekend in Wyoming and Montana for Jessi's bachelorette. we went apple picking, went to an outdoor comedy show and Hugo started soccer.
october: we went on lots of hikes and evening walks and long drives and the kids eagerly anticipated Halloween (Hugo was Miles / Spiderman, Maisie was a unicorn). Blake and I both had a lot of long days at work.
november: we had a Veterans Day celebration at Hugo's school and a quiet Thanksgiving with family in CT. I spent a weekend in NYC with friends and we ran our fastest half marathon yet. the kids played outside with the neighbors, we made a trip into the city for the Guggenheim and we put up our tree early.
december: we had a big snow before the holidays. escaped to warmer weather twice (once with the kids, once without). celebrated Christmas with family, did some remote learning with Hugo in quarantine. rang in the New Year, just us four in a hotel room.

2020 was a weird one that taught us and gave us much. we're thankful for so many things.
happy New Year, all.
